Developed by the Imperial Military Research Department, Stormtrooper armour is made from simple, inexpensive materials. The armour consists of 18 white plastic composite plates that Stormtroopers wear over a black tunic. It provides excellent mobility. Although initially designed for humans, the armour is adaptable, and several other types were built for other species.
After the Clone Wars, the clone soldiers who served the Galactic Republic became the first stormtroopers, tasked with suppressing rebel worlds and imposing the will of the new Emperor, Sheev Palpatine, across the galaxy.
