Of the same species as Master Yoda, Grogu is an initiate of the Jedi Order, trained by the greatest.
Present at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant during the execution of Order 66, he is mysteriously evacuated from the building to avoid being killed by Darth Vader or a clone of the 501st Legion. He is then hidden from the Imperials for many years, so much so that he forgets the ways of the Force and the Jedi that his masters had taught him.
Unable to communicate through speech, and carried from one side to another, Grogu's name was gradually lost, and the individuals guarding him ended up calling him "the Child."
